Introduce the reaction solvent into the vessel through the vent valve to wash away the bulk of the residue; then, fill the vessel halfway with water and stir for 10 minutes. Only then should the vessel lid be opened to clean the interior walls.
During the cleaning process, the lid and sampling valve must be cleaned, and a brief nitrogen purge should be performed while water is still inside the vessel.
For a reactor that will not be used for a time, it is best to fill it to 70% capacity with clean anhydrous ethanol for soaking; the bolts do not need to be tightened.
Proper cleaning ensures the high-pressure reactor is ready for its next use.
